Delegation from Dayton visited Mostar
Mayor of Mostar Ljubo Bešlić, together with the Chief Advisor Radmila Komadina and department heads, Marina Deronjić, Predrag Šupljeglav, Omer Pajić, Božo Ćorić and Izet Šahović, received today at the premises of the City Hall delegation of the American city Dayton, led by Mayor Nan Whaley.
The delegation of Dayton consisting of 25 citizens, experts in various fields, has visited Sarajevo and Banja Luka. The four cities Mostar, Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Dayton last year in November, on the twentieth anniversary of signing the Dayton Peace Accords, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose of continuing cooperation in the field of business, higher education, sports, infrastructure and ecosystems.
- We wanted to continue the cooperation between Mostar and cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Dayton in the next twenty years - said Mayor of Mostar Ljubo Bešlić at a press conference that took place after the meeting where guests from Dayton were introduced with the structure of the City Administration, its responsibilities and departments.
On behalf of all citizens Bešlić conveyed his regards to the family of chief American negotiator of Dayton Peace Accords Richard Holbrooke emphasizing that in “those days it was not easy to reach peace in BiH “.
- Many think that Dayton did not bring anything good, but I think we all have to realize that it has brought the greatest value that one society may have, and that is peace. Because of that, and out of respect for what late Richard Holbrooke did, I would like to use this opportunity to extend our gratitude of the citizens of BiH to his family - said Bešlić.
The Mayor of the American city of Dayton Nan Whaley said that BiH is very important for Dayton as well because of the Dayton Peace Accords, and the evidence for this is this large delegation that came. In the terms of concrete forms of cooperation, Mayor Bešlić said for now they agreed on concrete possibility of student exchanges between Mostar and Dayton.
After the meeting at the City Hall delegation from the City of Dayton, visited the Old Bridge and the Old City, and tomorrow they are planning to visit the Technology Park INTERA, Blagaj, Počitelj, Kravice, Međugorje and the Orthodox Cathedral.
